How To Check Your NIN

You can check your NIN using USSD code and this is how you go about it:

  • Dial *346# from the phone number associated with your voter’s card, driver’s license or BVN
  • Press 1 to get your NIN

If your NIN appears on your screen, do well to screenshot it so that you don’t have to dial the code another time to get your NIN. Anytime you dial the USSD code, you will be charged N20 although the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ibrahim Pantami has directed the Nigerian Communications  Commission (NCC) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to remove the charges imposed on the USSD code for the retrieval of NIN.

How To Link NIN To Your MTN Line

There are about 4 different ways to link your NIN to your MTN line and they are: USSD, MTN NIN Portal, MyMTN app and the NIMC mobile ID application.

How To Link Nin On MTN Through Ussd Code

The code to link your NIN to your MTN line is *785# and this can only work for MTN lines only. So this is how you go about it:

Dial *785*your NIN# and then you wait for a prompt message that will show to confirm that you have successfully linked your NIN.

How To Link NIN Through MTN NIN Portal

  • Visit the MTN online NIN portal
  • Fill in your first name, last name, middle name (optional), phone number, NIN, Email Address.
  • Then submit.

How To Link NIN On MTN Through MyMTN App.

  • Download MyMTN App from Google Play Store or App Store
  • Open MyMTN App and then log in using your MTN number.
  • On the home screen, click on proceed and then put your MTN number, your email and your NIN in the boxes that will appear on your screen.
  • Then you submit

How To Link NIN On MTN Through NIMC Mobile ID App

This is another way you can try if you are facing difficulties using the other methods we have discussed. This method is quite different as you will have to download the NIMC mobile app from your mobile app store.

The app is Mobile Web Services (MWS) and it is administered and managed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) on behalf of the Government of Nigeria.

This is how you could go about it:

  • Download the MWS (NIMC MobileID) application on Google Play Store or App Store.
  • Open the application and then put in your NIN and phone number. A One Time Password (OTP) will be sent to your phone number for verification. The OTP is valid for 30 minutes.
  • After that, you will have to create a 6-digit password/PIN. This is the PIN you will use to sign in to your NIMC mobile app dashboard.
  • When you log in to your dashboard, select the LINK MY NUMBERS option to add and validate your MTN line.

You can add more numbers up to 7 using the application and an OTP will be required to verify all the numbers.
